Locking the shed sets the seal on the weekend – Monday is knocking at the door and a week back in the office lies ahead. At least we still have the evenings to look forward to … especially with the new found discovery of bats in the garden and gloriously clear nights to spend looking at the stars.
It was a very good weekend though – and it feels like we achieved a lot. We finally got round to testing our soil … apparently it’s neutral-alkaline. Not sure what that means but it’s reassuring to know and will almost certainly be a great conversational stopper in the office tomorrow.
All of the tomatoes are in their growbags now, the potatoes are soiled up, the runner beans are doing well (despite a slug attack last night) and the gooseberries are cropping well. A trip to B&Q this morning landed us two pepper plants and some terracotta pots (which Gem cleverly painted with some sampler emulsion paints) to plant out our courgettes.
We built a little brick wall for the bed at the bottom of the shed out of the old bricks from the lean-to barbeque the previous owners had built …




Gem got new footwear for the garden in the shape of some pink crocs … at least it stops her stealing my shoes and then doing clown impressions, flapping around the place. One of our new additions, the Pericallis (Senetti Deep Blue) is looking glorious and filling one small part of the garden with a magical deep blue colour.
In the afternoon we sunbathed and when it was too hot to sunbathe, we sat under the trees. It doesn’t get much better than this – well, it would have been better if we actually had TWO magnums left in the fridge instead of just the one …
